How bidding works
Sponsored cards, sponsored articles and carousels are sold through an auction. In each ad set you choose how to bid:
- CPM (cost per thousand impressions): you pay each time your ad is shown, quoted per thousand. Suits awareness campaigns. The lowest bid is £9. - CPC (cost per click): you pay only when someone clicks your ad. Suits visits and bookings. The lowest bid is £0.45.
When a page has room for an ad, we take every ad eligible for that placement and viewer and rank them by bid multiplied by how likely players are to click, judged from how the ad and similar ads have done. The highest-ranked ad shows. A useful ad can therefore beat a higher bid. You never pay more than your bid.
Promoted listings
A promoted listing moves your own club, coach profile or place to the top of matching search results for £3 a day, for each day it runs. It is not part of the auction, and it only shows when your listing matches the search a player made.
Budgets
- Every campaign needs a budget of at least £5, daily or for its lifetime. - We pace delivery evenly through the day, so a daily budget does not run out in the morning. - On a single day a campaign can go slightly over its daily budget; over its life it never goes over its total budget, and never over your account spending limit.
Sponsored challenges and giveaways
Brand partners can run a sponsored challenge or prize draw for members. Each campaign costs £250, and follows the competitions and prize draws rules.
Choosing a bid
- Start at or a little above the lowest bid, run for a few days, then adjust. - Narrow targeting and a single placement mean fewer eligible impressions. If an ad set is not spending, widen the targeting or raise the bid. - Compare cost per conversion, not just cost per click, in your reports.
Charges
You pay as you go with a saved card. How and when you are charged is explained in billing.
