Coaching during a match
Under the FIP rules, advice from an accredited coach is allowed only in team and double-pair competitions, and only during rest times. Otherwise players sort it out between themselves.
When it is allowed
In team competitions and double-pair events, an accredited coach may give advice and instructions during the rest times: the changes of ends and the breaks between sets.
Other breaks
During medical time-outs, outside interruptions, suspensions or toilet breaks, the umpire decides whether the coach may speak to the players.
Coaches behave too
Coaches must behave properly. A coach's first offence earns a warning and a second sends them away from the match, and offences committed on a coach's instructions count against the players as well. Other competitions can set their own coaching rules, so check them.
