The ball hits something outside the court

When outside play is allowed and the ball leaves over the side wall or through a door, it can be chased only until it bounces a second time or touches anything that is not part of the court. A bench, a light pole or a person ends it, and the pair in whose half it bounced lose the point.

Before you get there

Their shot bounces in your half and flies out through the side. You can run after it, but if it hits a bench, a fence, a bag or anything else outside before you play it, your pair loses the point, just as if it had bounced twice.

Your return

Your shot back has to land on their floor before touching their walls, the mesh or anything that is not part of the court. A return from outside that clips a light pole on the way and then drops in is not a good return.

Over the end wall

A ball that bounces correctly and leaves over the end wall can never be chased, even on courts with outside play. The pair in whose half it bounced lose the point.
