Points, games and sets
Points go 15, 30, 40, game. A set is six games with a lead of two, and most matches are the best of three sets. What happens at 40-all depends on the format agreed before the start.
Points and games
A game runs love, 15, 30, 40 and game. If both pairs reach 40, it is deuce, and the game is decided by advantage, by the star point or by the golden point, as agreed before the match. Each has its own page.
Advantage
In the classic format, the pair that wins the point after deuce has advantage. Win the next point too and the game is yours; lose it and you are back to deuce, as long as it takes.
Sets
The first pair to six games with a lead of two wins the set, so five-all goes to seven-five. At six-all a tie-break decides the set, unless the competition says the final set is played on until one pair leads by two games.
Matches
Most matches are the best of three sets. Competitions can shorten them: a set to four games, or a tie-break or a super tie-break instead of the third set.
