Rally & Roam

Mixed doubles

Each pair has one woman and one man. Everything is played as normal except the deciding point: on a golden point or a star point, the player who receives must be the same sex as the server.

Ce qui change par rapport à un match classique

Each pair must be one woman and one man. On a golden point or star point the receiver is fixed by the server's sex, so the receiving pair loses the choice of side it has in other doubles.

Les règles

Each pair is one woman and one man. Either partner may serve first in a set, and the serving order then holds for the whole set, as in any doubles match. The receiving order is chosen in the first game of each set and holds until the set ends. In a rally either partner may play any ball, once, as normal. On a golden point at 40-all, the player who receives must be the same sex as the server. On the star point at deuce 3, the same applies: the receiver is the same sex as the server. On those deciding points the receiving players cannot change positions. The serve is directed to the right or left box, wherever the matching player normally receives. On every other point, including advantage points in advantage and star point scoring, the normal receiving order applies.

Comment l'organiser

Confirm the pairs at check-in and announce the deuce format. Remind players of the deciding-point rule in the pre-match briefing; it is the rule most often forgotten. On a deciding point, the server or umpire names the receiver before the serve. Run time limits, changes of ends and tie-breaks exactly as in standard doubles.
