Junior padel

Children play by the same rules as adults. Competitions group them by age, from under 12 to under 18 on the FIP junior circuit, and set their own match formats and coaching rules.

Cosa cambia rispetto a una partita standard

Age categories decide who may enter. Match formats are set by each competition and are often shorter than adult matches. Coaching rules can be stricter for younger categories. Lighter junior rackets and slower or low-compression balls for beginners are coaching choices; they are not FIP rules.

Le regole

The FIP rules of play apply in full: serve, walls, faults, scoring and conduct. FIP Promises categories are under 12, under 14, under 16 and under 18. On the FIP Promises tour a player's age is their age on the start date of the main draw. FIP Promises: a player may enter their own category or the next one up, never two above. FIP Promises: on the Continental Tour a player must be at least 9, and then plays only under 12, and at least 10 to play under 14; the World Tour is open from the age of 15. FIP Promises matches are the best of three sets, with star point games, a tie-break at six-all in the first two sets and a match tie-break to ten as the third set. FIP Promises coaching: in under 16 and under 18, one coach per pair may be on court; in under 12 and under 14, coaches stay in the stands and may not give instructions. Other events set their own formats. The LTA Youth Tour, for example, sets the scoring according to entry numbers.

Come organizzarlo

Publish the categories, the age rule and the match format with the entry details. Check identity and age at sign-in; the FIP rules let officials ask players to prove identity, nationality and age. Brief coaches on where they may sit and when they may speak. Keep sessions short for younger players: LTA Youth Tour events usually last about half a day.
