Rally & Roam

Mexicano

Scored like an Americano, but after the first round players are paired by the standings so matches stay close: first and fourth play second and third, and so on down the courts.

First round

The first round is drawn at random, and points are scored exactly as in an Americano, to a fixed target or time.

Pairing by the standings

From the second round, players are ranked by their totals. The top four play together on the first court, with first and fourth against second and third. The next four do the same on the second court, and so on. Organisers can adjust the grouping, so check the sheet.

Why it works

Because the pairs keep balancing themselves, games get closer as the event goes on, and strong players end up on the top court together.
